Dan Flokstra for CANSA/UNIFOR 1016 Regional Vice President

Dan Flokstra, ATOS UOS ZEG ACC, SHOP STEWARD

Hello fellow CANSA/UNIFOR 1016 members,

Having heard encouraging support from many of you, I have decided to run for the Regional Vice President of the Edmonton Branch for CANSA/UNIFOR 1016. I believe I would make the best candidate as I will work for the group and protect your rights under our collective Agreement as well as fighting for the Edmonton group at all union business.

I have a good working relationship with management and will bring a calm and professional attitude to support all CANSA members. I have been effectively and passionately leading the ATOS group as the UOS and have brought in many positive changes. As a direct result of this, our ATOS group is now included in discussions around operational changes. I believe that including the members in decision making creates a better and more inclusive environment.

I will follow the CANSA UNIFOR 1016 rules and bylaws and treat every member with respect and look out for your rights. Specifically ensuring all members are engaged and have a voice, I will follow the bylaws and have at least 1 annual CANSA UNIFOR 1016 meeting, and other meetings when requested and/or as required. I will bring honesty and discretion to the position and will be open and available to you when needed.

I started in the company with Transport Canada and qualified in Fort St John Tower in 1994 and then went to ZEG ACC as a direct streamer and was unsuccessful there. My next stop was Inuvik FSS from 1997 to 2001 and became part of the Union there. In 2001 I went to Yellowknife Tower and checked out and worked there from 2001 to 2006. I was involved in the union there as the Tower Rep from 2002 to 2005. My next move was to Moncton Tower from 2006 to 2008. From there I moved to Edmonton ATOS. And in 2016 I became the UOS for ATOS. In 2018 I became a shop steward. I attended the UNIFOR Local 1016 Tri-Annual Convention in October 2018 In Niagara Falls, Ontario.

Voting will be completed by electronic means using Simply Voting from Monday September 23rd to Friday October 4th. Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have. I ask for your support and vote to strengthen your voice and representation in Edmonton.

In solidarity,
