February 2024 Bargaining Update
As discussed in our member meetings over the last couple of weeks, I am providing an update on the Conciliation Process. The Minster of Labour has appointed Mr. Robert J. Orr, Regional Director – Ontario Region, Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS) as Conciliation Officer to deal with the CANSA-Nav Canada labour dispute. We are now in the 60-day period of conciliation until April 12, 2024. Any extension beyond 60 days (April 12, 2024) can be made only by mutual consent of the parties.
What is the next step?
We have dates of March 11-12, 2024, and March 20-22, 2024, to meet with Nav Canada and Mr. Orr in conciliation. We will continue to bargain with Nav Canada as we have been doing. Moving forward, all bargaining will be done with Mr. Orr at the table with us mediating the process. He will also meet with both parties in caucus to discuss the issues and make suggestions.
As stated in our meetings across the country, I feel we are being very fair and upfront in this bargaining process. Nav Canada is requesting what we consider large concessions, and we feel nothing less than the Unifor pattern will be acceptable for our members. We will continue to demonstrate your value to Nav Canada and insist that they not devalue the work you do and compensate you properly. You deserve that respect and value that all CANSA members contribute to Nav Canada.
Please reach out to your Regional Vice President for additional information or questions. I will provide further updates after each round of conciliation.
Your continued support will be important in achieving the next collective agreement.
In Solidarity,
James Walker
President CANSA/Unifor 1016
