March 2024 Bargaining Update
As discussed in our member meetings and bargaining bulletins, I am providing an update on the Conciliation Process. Earlier this week, March 11/12, 2024, we met with Mr. Robert J. Orr, Regional Director – Ontario Region, Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS) to start the Conciliation Process.
The first step in the process was to sit down with Mr. Orr and explain our position. We took that opportunity to show the value you bring to this company and to show the concessions Nav Canada is asking for have a significant impact on our members. We let him know that nothing less than the established Unifor pattern will do for our members.
The next step was to continue to bargain with Nav Canada with Mr. Orr present at the table. Nav Canada continues to devalue the work of our members. We find this disrespectful and disappointing considering what concessions are on the table.
Moving Forward
We have dates of March 20-22, 2024, to meet with Nav Canada and Mr. Orr in conciliation again. We will continue to bargain with Nav Canada as we have been doing and will hold firm on your value.
If these dates fail to show any significant movement from Nav Canada, we will be setting up calls across the country the following week to provide you with detailed information on the bargaining process in preparation for a strike vote.
As stated previously, we are being very fair and upfront in this bargaining process with Nav Canada. They are requesting what we consider significant concessions, and nothing less than the Unifor pattern will be acceptable for our members. We will continue to demonstrate your value to Nav Canada and insist that they compensate you properly.
Please reach out to your Regional Vice President for additional information or questions.
Your continued support will be important in achieving the next collective agreement.
In Solidarity,
James Walker
President CANSA/Unifor 1016
