Shop Steward Election Call

CANSA Shop Stewards

In accordance with our local bylaws, we will be holding elections to replace all current shop stewards. All current shop stewards must put their name in again to be considered for the new 3-year term. No one is carried over.

Voting will be completed if required via SimplyVoting using corporate emails. Each Region will elect one shop steward per ten members or greater part thereof (6 or more):

Vancouver	3	Ottawa	7
Edmonton	3	Montreal	3
Winnipeg	3	Moncton	2
Toronto	4	Gander	3

Role of the Shop Steward position: The Shop Steward should be available to represent the employees within their region if designated by the Regional Vice President, during meetings with supervisors and/or managers. They shall be available to meet with local members to discuss complaints or issues pertaining to the unit. They shall report to their Regional Vice-President any complaint which they receive on behalf of a member.

Eligibility to stand and vote: Any CANSA member in good standing, having at least one year’s service in the bargaining unit, may stand for the position.  However, any CANSA member in good standing, regardless of years of service, may vote for the position.

Nominations: Open Friday, May 3, 2024, until Friday, May 17, 2024, at 17:00 EST.  Any eligible member may nominate any other eligible member by email to the Elections Chair at ashley.dhillon@unifor1016.ca. You must send a copy of your nomination email to your nominee.  The nominee must also email the Elections Chair with confirmation of acceptance of their nomination. 

NOTE:  It is very important that you check for a reply email from the Elections Chair to acknowledge receipt of your nomination or acceptance emails.  Self-nominations will not be accepted.

Campaign: Once your nomination has been accepted and if you wish to campaign, you may submit a poster to be posted on the Unifor1016 website.  Please send a copy to the Elections Chair at ashley.dhillon@unifor1016.ca.

Elections: Voting will occur between Friday, May 31, 2024, at 09:00 EST and Friday, June 14, 2024, at 17:00 EST.  Elections will be held using the Simply Voting website; members are required to access the website using their company email address.  A link will be sent to your work email address shortly before the election dates.
